Each corner with a turned column surmounted by brass finials, further surmounted by two collapsible arched canopy supports, joined by three metal struts, the cot with vertical slats, plain frieze with brass panelled corners, on turned tapering legs with brass caps and castors, with two silk bows and large white cotton drape

Lot Essay

A handbill issued by Thomas Butler (fl. 1787-1814) of the Strand, advertised 'Bed Furniture & Mattresses calculated for the East and West Indies. Ship Cabbins furnished. Articles particularly adapted and for Travelling and Exportation'. A child's beds of this form with a 'Butler' label was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 19 March 1987, lot 125 (C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, fig. 170).
