In the manner of Gillows
Each with moulded rounded rectangular top above a bead-and-reel frieze, on reeded and ring-turned baluster legs, and one with a gadrooned moulding to the base of the leg, on beaded trestle-end supports, turned feet and castors, one with paper label inscribed 'Ifrarthur late bedroom', variations in carving
One 29½ in. (75 cm.), the other 29¼ in. (74 cm.) high; both 47½ in. (121 cm.) wide; 26¼ in. (66.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

The pattern of these writing-tables corresponds to one with 'handsome pillar ends', and a reeded and leather-lined top, featured in Gillows 1824 Estimate Sketch Book, no. 3371 (Westminster City Archive).
A related table supplied by Gillows to William, 4th Earl Fitzwilliam in 1822, was sold by the Trustees of the Olive, Countess Fitzwilliam Chattels Settlement, Wentworth Woodhouse, in these Rooms, 8 July 1998, lot 83.
