Dresser's association with Tiffany & Co. in the late 1870s and early 1880s has hitherto been understood only with Dresser acting as a buyer/supplier of Japanese artefacts for sale through Tiffany & Co. in New York. The present piece, apparently manufactured by Tiffany & Co. to Dresser's original design for James Dixon and Sons, suggests a much closer commericial connection between the designer and the retailer than previously recorded.
