A PAIR OF SILVER-MOUNTED ENGLISH BLACK BASALTES VASES AND COVERS
19th Century, probably Wedgwood, the mounts later
Each oviform vase with rounded cover and acorn finial, turned with vertical striped, the mouth with a band of drapery swags and Bacchic mask handles, the socle foot with stiff leaf tips, raised on a silver plinth, 9 1/2in. (24.2cm.) high; together with two Regency style tôle peint jardinieres, one of square serpentine form and painted with panels of birds in landscapes reserved on the yellow and red striped ground, brass ring handles at each side, 10¼in. (26cm.) high, the other of flaring square section, painted en grisaille with the goddess Diana on a strapwork bracket and belo a baldochino, the sides with foliate scrolls and lion-mask handles suspending rings, the square base painted with husks, 91/8in. (23.2cm.) high; and a French (Marti & Cie.) brass and glass mantle clock with mercury pendulum, the movement impressed with the silver medal seal of 1889, '2461 4 5' and 'MADE IN FRANCE', 9in.
