A PAIR OF LOUIS XV CANED BEECHWOOD FAUTEUILS A LA REINE
Circa 1740
Each back with inswept sides, arched crestrail centered by a flowering rocaille cartouche flanked by opposed acanthus scrolls, rocaille-carved top corners and acanthus-sheathed bottom corners, above a bowed seat with padded parcel-gilt beige leather cushion, flanked by outcurved armrests on acanthus-sheathed inverted-cabriole supports, the seatrail similarly-decorated, on cabriole legs with acanthus-sheathed volute feet each headed by a scrolled rocaille cartouche centering a floral spray joined by a molded and scrolled X-stretcher centered by a flowerhead, one inscribed in black grease pencil twice 13, the other 7, each member of the stretcher carved with floral sprays, possibly formerly decorated (2)
