The Spindler Brothers were among the most important cabinetmakers to the courts at Bayreuth, Potsdam and Berlin. Notable mainly for their work at the Neues Palais for Frederick the Great, they produced fine furniture decorated with lavish floral marquetry and rich gilt-bronze mounts. Similar examples to the offered lot can be seen in H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des Deutchen Möbels, vol. ii, Munich, 1970, figs. 797 and 798. An occasional table of similar form the this example was sold Christie's London, 16 December 1999, lot 92. (#58,700)
