Late 18th Century, the side rails probably replaced
The shaped rectangular caned bed below an arched, C-scroll and rocaille-carved arched headboard with rocaille-carved finials flanking the central pierced asyemmtrical fan clasp above the pierced asymmetrical double splat upright, the panelled mahogany apron on cabriole legs with acanthus carved scrolled pad feet, together with a trellis patterned blue and rose tasseled cotton cushion
51¾in. (136cm.) high overall, 18¾in. (49.5cm.) high the seat, 72in. (190cm.) long, 38in. (100.5cm.) wide

Lot Essay

The scrolled form of the back with rocaille carving and the asymetrical form of the splats is typical of Portugese and Portugese colonial furniture of this date.
