拍品專文

Following the immediate succes in Europe of Japanese Imari porcelain exported by the VOC via Deshima from 1682 onwards, Chinese kilns soon followed their example and developed their own Imari style. However, examples such as the above lot, where the Japanese design and colour scheme were closely followed are rare. There is a similar, smaller example to the above bowl from the Saltin Bequest in the Victoria and Albert Museum, which was included in the O.C.S. Exhibition, 1990, Porcelain for Palaces, The Fashion for Japan in Europe, 1650-1750, Catalogue, no. 256, p. 257. A pair of verte-Imari bowls and covers with a closely related design was sold in our London Rooms, 28 April 1999, lot 122.
