Lot Essay

Two similarly shaped and decorated tea-caddies made by Johannes Keeman in the same year are preserved in the collection of Museum Mr. S. van Gijn in Dordrecht. The similarities between the tea-caddies and the teapot, together with the date of manufacture suggest they may once have formed part of the same tea service (one of the tea-caddies is illustrated in exh. cat Dordrechts Goud en Zilver, Dordrecht, 1975, no.109, p.40 and p.117, the other (not illustrated) in exh. cat Dordrechts Goud en Zilver, Dordrecht, 1975, no.110, p.40)
