Depicting a twisted marbled column decorated in horror vacui, with flower-sprays and winged cherubs, above a rocaille scroll, the pediment with a seated lady and an anchor allegorical of Hope

Lot Essay

In the 18th Century decorated tile pillars substituted the old fashioned sandstone Atlantes, which flanked the fireplaces in the 16th and 17th Century Dutch interior.
