Okawachi, Nabeshima Ware, Edo Period (18th Century)
Designed with a mist-shrounded cherry tree by a rippling river, the trunk and branches of the tree executed in underglaze-blue and the blossoms in overglaze red-enamel, the overlapping waves also underglaze-cobalt and the mist created by a thickly-applied, translucent celadon glaze; the underside of the dish painted in underglaze-blue with a continuous band of karakusa scroll with three large blossoms of lighter blue and with a deep-blue 'comb-tooth' band around the raised foot; rim glazed in iron-oxide, foot rim unglazed
