Pablo de Sarasate Carmen fantasy, Op. 25

As a millenium project, the artist has copied a famous portrait painting by Shin Yunbok (b. 1758) in oil onto the back of a violin below a compass. Byun, who now lives in New York, graduated from Chung-Ang University in Seoul in 1974. He studied at the Art Students League of New York from 1981 to 1984. He had one-person exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern Art, Seoul in 1980, at the Park Ryu Sook Gallery, Seoul in 1994 and 1996 and at the Debec Plaza Gallery in Daegu in 2000. He also had one-person exhibitions at the Prezant Gallery, New York in 1993 and at Space Untitled Gallery, New York in 1996 and 1997. His paintings are in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Kwachon, Korea and the Cleveland Museum of Art, among others.
