The Ramayana, a 50,000 line poem is one of India's most popular and enduring stories written by the sage Valmiki and divided into seven sections called khands.
It can be interpreted on several levels as not just an epic poem but also a treatise on dharma, filial and brotherly duty, honor, loyalty, piety and marital fidelity. Rama is the ideal son, husband and ruler while his wife, Sita, is an embodiment of the perfect woman.
