Lot Essay

This work belongs to Krishen Khanna's Game series from the 1970's. The series makes statements about the human predicament, specifically, the "heartless, fiendish political game" we call life. Here, we see the heartless boot wearing "brass hats" and "murderous masterminds" deliberating over the fate of the helpless masses.

Each picture in the series is a slight variation on the others, either with the addition of a new character or the symbolic appearance of a loyal dog. The larger work in oil that is closest to this, has an additional layer of gloom and desolation with carcasses of men visible underneath the table, and the men's boots nonchalantly stretched over them.

For additional images and a discussion of the series, see, Lalit Kala Contemporary 24 - 25, September 1977 - April 1978.
