The rectangular panelled top with 'ice-plate' edge above a narrow waist, the beaded aprons carved in high relief with scrolling tendrils, the shoulders carved with animal-mask terminals, the curling mane extending downwards as undulating scrollwork on cabriole legs terminating in square-form feet with trefoil motif carved in low relief, the wood of an attractive blondish hue

The present lot appears to be quite rare with its combination of elegant freestanding cabriole legs and rectangular top. In the more common model the top is round and the feet rest on a circular continuous base stretcher or a solid base.
