Lot Essay

For a jar of similar form, but smaller size and with a cover, see the example from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, illustrated by R. Mowry, Hare's Fur, Tortoiseshell, and Partridge Feathers, Harvard University, 1996, no. 11, where the author ascribes it to the Huangdao kiln, Jia county, Henan province and dates it to the 8th-9th century.
