Lot Essay

A number of these famille verte lanterns have been published. They differ primarily in the openwork panels, being either cash, Buddhistic crosses, or shaped panels, as in the present lot. Compare an almost identical lantern, possibly the same one, illustrated by A. du Boulay, Christie's Pictorial History of Chinese Ceramics, New Jersey, 1984, p. 232, no. 10.
