YONGZHENG SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD

A Yongzheng-marked dish of this pattern and size in the Freer Gallery of Art is illustrated by Beurdeley and Raindre, Qing Porcelain, London, 1987, pl. 231 and another from the Soames Collection was included in the O.C.S. exhibition, Celadon Wares, 1947, no. 131. A Song dynasty longquan dish from the Sedgewick Collection in the exhibition, op. cit., no. 40, also decorated in relief with a dragon and with a petal band on the exterior, is most likely of the type which inspired the later Yongzheng examples, not only its smooth, blue-green glaze but also its design.
