Circa 1850
One side stained red, the opposing green, heightened with gilt decoration, the green king, two bishops, a rook and knight from the same side replaced, and a red rook replaced, all replacements circa 1890
King -- 25/8in.(6.7cm.) high; pawn -- 1¾in. (4.5cm.) high

These sets were carved in Rajasthan province and shipped from the port of Madras. The sets typically represent the British versus the Indian natives, the pawns often included a fifer among the varied soldiers and drummers.
