COMPARATIVE LITERATURE A comparative set was sold October 1979, English and Continental Silver and Chess Sets, including the Harbeson Chess Collection, Sotheby's New York, lot 448a.
Victor Keats, The Illustrated Guide to World Chess Sets, Batsford Ltd, 1985, page 26. There are many varying regional styles and decorations between the provinces of India. The standard design was typically the John Company pattern. Many richly polychromed ivory and metal sets were made in Jaipur commissioned for rajahs during the early 19th century. One such similar set is illustrated in plate 5.
