One side blackened, the royal pieces made up of 500 mark coins, the pawns 200 mark coins, the pieces marked to the underside with relevant denomination and DEUTSCHES REICH, 1923

Lot Essay

During a period of intense inflation in Germany between the World War I and II, the pfennig and mark coins were of very little value. The pieces were assembled together and cut out pieces of metal added to characterise the pieces.
