Late 19th century
The one side a darker hue, the opposing lighter, the kings and queens as medieval monarchs, the pawns as individual countrymen with coat tails, hats and sticks, all on turned reel-shaped bases
King -- 4¾in. (12.2cm.); pawn -- 31/8in. (8cm.) high
