COMPARATIVE LITERATURE
Alex Hammond, The Book of Chessmen, Arthur Baker Ltd, 1950. A very similar chess set is illustrated in plate II.
The carving wood chesspieces was a well established tradition in Central Europe but interestingly it is possible to decipher regional characteristics among the pieces. In this instance, it is noted on page 50, that the turkey surmounting the rook is the emblem of the Czech Republic.
