The stage production of Dracula inspired Universal Studios' 1931 film, which is a close adaptation of the play rather than Bram Stoker's novel. The stage production opened in 1927 on Broadway, and then toured for two years. Bela Lugosi and Edward van Sloan appeared in both the play and the film.
