A FRENCH ORMOLU EIGHT-LIGHT CHANDELIER
Late 19th early 20th Century
The five foliate cast chain links suspending a foliate baluster shaft and dish issuing from espagnolette masks four panelled and C-scrolled detached supports with husk-trails, centred by a bulbous square shaft with foliate edges above a cylindrical dish issuing scrolling foliate and panelled branches with husk-trailing terminating in square blocks and pearled dished drip-pans with conforming urn-shaped nozzles, to the centre with grotesque masks above the lower pierced section terminating in a foliate boss

Lot Essay

The design of this chandelier is related to an unattributed chandelier of circa 1715 in the Audienzzimmer of the Residenz, Munich, which was probably acquired by Kurfürst Max Emanuel for the room in 1726-1729 (H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et. al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 53, fig. 1.6.7.).
