Second quarter 19th Century
The divided plate with lobed top and lotus-flower spandrels surmounted by a spread eagle and flanked by lotus-leaf semi-detached columns with foliate capitals, the lower section with an inverted breakfront moulding above a scrolling foliate palmette flanked by C-scroll and palmette pilasters on a conforming stiff-leaf moulding, losses to the carved decoration
120 in. x 37½ in. (304.5 cm. x 95 cm.)

Lot Essay

The frame's palm-wrapped columns and cusp-arched glass relates to the Saloon decoration of George IV's Pavilion at Brighton illustrated in John Nash, Views of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, 1826 (J. Dinkel, The Royal Pavilion Brighton, London, 1983, pp. 95 - 97).
