AN ITALIAN GREEN-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT THRONE CHAIR
18th Century
The shaped cresting surmounted by a basket of flowers and further foliate and floral scrolls above the back and seat covered in yellow damask, the deep apron, sides and back with conforming scrolling foliage centred by a scallop-shell on cabriole legs with scroll feet and further shell-motif, restorations to arms, half of the cresting replaced, with signs of original green underpaint

Lot Essay

This throne chair was probably acquired by the present owner's grandmother, Lady Eva Dugdale, while on tour in Italy as lady-in-waiting to Queen Mary, wife of George V.
