Woven in wools and silks, depicting the Kermesse, with peasants sitting around tables and feasting, before a tavern hung with a red flag and a tavern sign with a crescent moon, to the right with a hurdy-gurdy player with four children before him, in the background with a man conversing with a women looking through a window, the right with a large tree, within a later blue outer slip, reduced in size, reweaving and patching, the shirt of the front figure rewoven

Lot Essay

The design of this tapestry is identical to the right half of the following lot in this sale (lot 240), with the exception of small variations to the ground and the dog not being included. A further, full version, also omitting the spaniel was sold anonymously, Christie's Rome, 25-26 May 1972, lot 250.
