Lot Essay

This Franchi gun was seized, along with many other guns from the Duke of Aosta's collection, when British forces overran the Governor's mansion in Addis Abbaba in 1941. Aosta had been the Governor of Ethiopia and the the man who acquired the gun was Miles Fletcher, the famous Kenyan white hunter. The gun was subsequently bought in 1955 from Fletcher by the present owner during the Mau Mau Emergency
