LEWIS, Henry. Das Illustrirte Mississippithal... vom Wasserfalle zu St. Anthony an bis zum Golf von Mexico. Dusseldorf: Arnz & Co., [1854]. 4o. 24 hand-finished lithographed plates only (of 78). Present are views of St. Louis and St. Paul's, with the remaining illustrations mostly Indian and prairie scenes, the plates titled in English or German with a few titled in both languages (light spotting, some toning to plates, light spotting to text). Original blind-stamped cloth, rebacked with original gilt-titled spine preserved.
Sabin, though he transcribed the title page which calls for 80 plates (a double-page counting as 2), nevertheless cites 24 plates for this edition. He apparently never saw a complete copy of this, one of the rarest colorplate books of American views. Howes L312; Sabin 40807.
