Lot Essay

Probably the son of John Miller (c. 1715-1794), a flower painter and engraver, who moved to England from Germany. The present watercolour is typical of his charming topographical views of London. His work is very much in the vein of Paul Sandby (1730-1809) of whom he was a contemporary.
