Lot Essay

The Crows were a vocal harmony quintet from Harlem, New York and critics often argue that this is America's first ever rock'n'roll record. This record was originally released in the States on George Goldner's Rama label in 1953. When West Coast DJ, Dick Hugg, played the track repeatedly over the air to try and win back a girlfriend, it became a West Coast hit and peaked at number 2 in the R&B charts. When the record was later released in the UK on Columbia a year later, few copies were sold even though it remained on catalogue for eighteen months. Consequently, fewer than ten copies of this record are thought to exist.
