Lot Essay

Pierre Jules Mêne (1810-1871) is, along with Antoine Louis Bayre, the best known of the French Animalier school. This portrait group of two Arab horses Tachiani and Nedjibc was first exhibited in bronze in 1853.
Christie's New York sold the same model on 24 May 1989, lot 197 ($8,050).
