A large ormolu mantel clock
Second half 19th Century
Surmounted by a two-handled urn, above the rocaille and shell-cast case, the foliate-cast dial with blue and white enamel inset Roman numerals and hands in the form of serpents, with twin-train movement with countwheel striking on a bell, flanked to one side by a naked river god and to the other by a nymph, each supporting a foliate-decorated paddle and with bulrushes behind, the shaped base mounted to each side with a griffin and centred by a shell laden with fruit and flanked to each side by a putto, on shell and foliate-cast feet, losses
25 in. (63.5 cm.) wide; 29 in. (73.6 cm.) high; 9½ in. (24 cm.) deep
