Gouache heightened with gold on paper, the miniature depicting a young prince seated on the roof of a palace by night listening to a musician, signed below "The work of Fateh Chand", mounted with very fine gold floral illuminated borders, generally good condition
Leaf: 113/8 x 7½in. (28.8 x 19cm.); Miniature: 4¾ x 2¾in. (12 x 7cm.)

Lot Essay

This miniature is from a Ragamala series dispersed at auction in the 1960's. The artist Fateh Chand painted 19 of the total of 36, the remainder were by one Faqirullah. Both artists were active in Oudh in the third quarter of the 18th century.
