A QAJAR SILVER INLAID PIERCED BRASS VASE AND COVER
PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY
Of baluster form, the domed cover rising to a large pointed knop, the body with diagonal rows of finely pierced scrolling flowering vine dividing similar silver-outlined bands of cartouches containing a wide variety of figures including many fantastic demons and comical humans, similar bands of pierced floral and engraved figural decoration above and below, the neck with a band of pierced silver-inlaid inscription cartouches with repetitions of titles divided by engraved animal roundels, the upper band around the mouth interrupted by a signature cartouche, similar bands around the foot, the cover also with diagonal floral and figural bands within similar borders, the knop with stylised figures, the underside of the foot with a few engraved sketches, one small split, basically good condition
