Sat on a rock, drapery falling from her waist, the eagle perched on her thigh and feeding from a cup held in her hand, on a circular naturalistically-carved base inscribed C. VOSS. FEC/ROMA/1864, revolving on a marble pedestal, with circular stepped top carved with a band of rosettes, above a cylindrical column and stepped base

Born in Dunwald, Germany, Carl Voss (d. 1896) worked in Rome between 1850 and 1894 and specialised in classical groups such as the present depiction of Hebe and Jupiter's Eagle.
