The Adoration of the Shepherds

After the painting in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Marseilles, which formed part of the predella to an altarpiece executed by Rubens in 1619 for the Church of Saint John in Mechelen (M. Jaffé, Rubens Catalogo Completo, 1989, no.482F). The present lot is based on an engraving by Lucas Vorsterman I (1595-1675) (Hollstein, Dutch & Flemish Etchings, etc., Roosendaal-Amsterdam, XLIII, 1943, no.7).
