He played football for the Hanley Schools, and Stoke St. Peter's before playing as an amateur at Stoke City (1930) and turning professional in February 1932. During World War Two, he was a guest player for Morton and Blackpool before signing for the latter in 1947 (£11,500). He then went back to Stoke City in October 1961 before retiring as a footballer in 1965 and becoming the first footballer to be Knighted for his services. The following 17 lots (lots 151-167) are the property of a North West Collector. The vendor was a close friend of many footballers, including Stanley Matthews (lots 151-162) and most of the items offered for sale were gifted from the players concerned The following twelve lots relate to the career of Stanley Matthews
