Lot Essay

Synonymous with the name Alfred Hitchcock is his famous profile. Halsman first met the director in 1962 on the set of The Birds, where he had been hired by Hitchcock's publicist to photograph during the making of the movie. Two weeks after completing his work on the set, Halsman's images appeared as a cover story in both Life and Look magazines.
