A 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular Ross No. 1 stand,
signed ROSS LONDON NO. 2064, the body-tube mounted on an arm on the massive rectangular-section limb, with rack and pinion coarse focusing, the micrometer fine adjustment wheel finely engraved, the lower limb mounted with the circuit stage with rack and pinion gear motion and mechanical slide attachment, the circle finely divided and well engraved, the lower limb with sub-stage condenser similarly adjusted by rack and pinion in vertical and circular motion, with extended tubular lower limb mounted with the plano-concave mirror, the axis with clamping lever raised on two shaped supports over the Y-shaped stand, supported by a mahogany plinth base with three boxwood clamps, with an extensive range of accessories contained in four fitted drawers, including six eyepieces labelled B, C, D, E and F, and six objectives including ½in., in., 1in., 1½in., 3in., by Ross London, and a can inscribed 4in. J.H. Steward 406 Strand, other accessories include a double nose-piece, Ross Achromatic Condenser, compressor, live box, secondary body-tube engraved with a scale 0-4in., 1in. lieberkuhn, a combined 1½in. and 2in. lieberkuhn, prism attachment, stage-mounted bull's-eye condenser, reflector and forceps, pillar bull's-eye condenser and other items, and a collection of glass slides in two drawers, each drawer with stained ivory pull, all contained in the original mahogany carrying case, with two inset brass carrying handles -- 22¼in.
