An 18th-Century lacquered-brass reflecting telescope,
signed on the eyepiece extension tube G. Adams No 60 Fleet Street LONDON Instrut. Maker to his MAJESTY, the 4-inch diameter body-tube with removable dust cover allowing either a 4-inch or a 3-inch aperture, the inside rim stamped BWC, the 25in. (63.5cm.) long body-tube with screw-rod focusing, turned backplate, primary and secondary speculum mirrors, raised on a support with compass joint, tapering column and folding tripod stand, the cabriole legs with inswept feet, with one accessory eyepiece, contained in an oak carrying case with twin brass swing handles (lid repaired) -- 31¾in. (80.7cm.) wide overall
