A late 19th-Century noon-cannon dial,
engraved ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co MADE IN ENGLAND, the oxidised brass cannon with brass plunger and magnifier frame on quadrant supports, one graduated for the first six months of the year with initials, the circular brass baseplate with gnomon and foliate decoration, bearing the legends THE HOURS UNLESS THE HOURS BE BRIGHT IT IS NOT MINE TO MARK and I AM THE PROPHET OF THE LIGHT DUMB WHEN THE HOUR IS DARK, also with a table for the equation of time and minutes faster or slower than the sun throughout the year, on three spherical brass feet -- 9¾in. (24.8cm.) diameter
