A late 19th-Century lacquered-brass and nickel finished transit theodolite,
signed on the horizontal plate HILDERBRAND FREIBERG i/s No. 4644, the 10½in. (26.7cm.) long telescope with rack and pinion focusing, spider's web adjusters, fore and aft sights, and object glass dust-cap, the trunnion piece with axis and counterbalance weight on twin V-supports, with cross-bubble in lacquered-brass and green marbled finished frame with unnumbered graduations, reflector mirror and rosewood carrying handle, raised on crescent-shaped twin supports, with twin fine tangent-screw adjusters, the tapering vertical pillar supporting finely modelled horizontal trunnions with vertical telescope magnifiers incorporating vernier fine adjusters engraved A and B, the horizontal plate with chamfered edge enclosing the horizontal silvered circle, the twin telescopes with reflectors, the vernier window with single register raised on a lacquered-brass and green marbled finished tripod attachment, with tangent screw adjustment and clamp, raised on three fine-screw adjustable feet, overall height -- 13¾in.
