THREE METEORITES FROM MBALE, UGANDA
The following three lots all originated from the meteorite shower that fell in Mbale, Uganda, on 14th August 1992. They are Stone-meteorites, Chrondite L5-6, and originated from one complete piece which whch was estimated to have a weight of between 400 and 1000kg. This fragmented as it entered the Earth's atmosphere, and the hundreds of pieces resulting were strewn across an area of approximately 3 x 7km. The largest specimen was 27.4kg in weight. A field expedition worked in the area between 29 August and 5 September 1992, studying the specimens, and their findings were published in Meteoritics, Vol.29, No.2, March 1994, a copy of which paper is included with each Lot.
