A meteorite from the Mbale shower,
THREE METEORITES FROM MBALE, UGANDA The following three lots all originated from the meteorite shower that fell in Mbale, Uganda, on 14th August 1992. They are Stone-meteorites, Chrondite L5-6, and originated from one complete piece which whch was estimated to have a weight of between 400 and 1000kg. This fragmented as it entered the Earth's atmosphere, and the hundreds of pieces resulting were strewn across an area of approximately 3 x 7km. The largest specimen was 27.4kg in weight. A field expedition worked in the area between 29 August and 5 September 1992, studying the specimens, and their findings were published in Meteoritics, Vol.29, No.2, March 1994, a copy of which paper is included with each Lot.
