A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE-BOOKCASE
In the manner of Thomas Chippendale, circa 1770
The pierced fretwork swan's neck crest with central plinth above a stepped and overhanging Greek-key cornice and fluted frieze, the pair of glazed doors with arched and trefoil mullions enclosing a cream silk-lined interior with three shelves, over a stepped lower section, the hinged secretaire drawer front opening to a range of sycamore-veneered drawers over pigeonholes and further drawers with a gilt-tooled brown leather writing surface, above two cut-corner panelled doors enclosing two linen slides, on bracket feet, the lower section with overall boxwood stringing, with the yellow chalk inscription 6139
