A GEORGE III TORTOISESHELL, SATINWOOD, AMARANTH, MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY DRESSING/WRITING CABINET-ON-STAND**
Circa 1790
In two sections, the rectangular superstructure with an overhanging cornice above a pair of glazed doors, enclosing an interior fitted with fourteen variously sized cedar-lined drawers with tortoiseshell veneered fronts centered by a niche with false back concealing five short drawers, the base with three long drawers, the uppermost fitted with an assortment of open and lidded compartments, wells and a hinged mirror, the second drawer with a leather-inset sliding writing surface flanked by wells fitted with glass ink bottles, the sides of the upper section with centered panelled fan medallion, the lower section with centered satinwood medallion, on straight tapering legs and brass spade feet, lacking casters
