This elaborately carved games table with its pierced fretwork legs and gothic style frieze relates to patterns in Thomas Chippendale's Director (1756-1762) but most closely corresponds to a design in The Universal System of Household Furniture published by cabinet-makers William Ince and John Mayhew in 1762, plate LII. A similar table is illustrated in A. Coleridge, Chippendale Furniture, New York, 1968, pl.241.
