AN AMERICAN SILVER TEA SERVICE**
Maker's mark of Howard & Co., New York, circa 1896-99
Comprising: teapot, hot water kettle-on-stand, cream jug, covered two-handled sugar bowl, waste bowl, tea caddy, caddy spoon, and tea strainer, each piece with a globular melon-fluted body chased with a wide band of C-scrolls and flame ornament, with monogram on one side, and with shaped and gadrooned upper borders and matching domed covers, each raised on four paw feet with shells at the knees; the teapot and kettle each with a curved spout and loop handle, the tea caddy with lift-off inner and outer covers, each engraved under the base with presentation inscription dated December 12, 1899.
The kettle-on-stand 10in. (25.4cm.) high excluding handle; gross weight 160oz. (8)
