Maker's mark of Gorham Mfg. Co., circa 1893
The tapering square body on four claw feet with foliate joins, the knees chased with flowers, the wavy rim with gadroon border, with a presentation inscription and crowned "W", the handles with engraved flowers, with an inscription reading; Presented by Geo. C. Boldt to the N.Y. City Hotel Association in commemoration of the opening of "The Waldorf" March 13th 1893.

Lot Essay

George C. Boldt was the first manager of the old Waldorf Hotel which opened to the public on March 13, 1893 on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Thirty-fourth Street, a site which is now occupied by the Empire State Building. The hotel moved to its current Park Avenue address in 1929.
